Prescription and non-prescription medications, syringes, medical sharps and other types of bio-hazardous waste are not accepted in our garbage or recycling programs. Ask your pharmacist if they accept these items for safe disposal. Unfinished or expired prescriptions can be dropped off at the Public Safety Building for disposal. Over the counter medicines can be placed in the regular garbage. SHARPS (needles or syringes) must be placed in a designated SHARPS container or non-penetrable container (detergent bottle) with (1:3 ratio) bleach solution. Once container is full shake so all needles are rinsed by bleach solutions. Empty out all liquids and seal the container. Transport the sealed and labeled container to a SHARPS Drop-off location. For current drop off locations contact the Solid Waste Division, 355-3496. If you are unsure about whether a material is accepted, or if you need more information, please call 605-355-3496. |
